Description

I have spent about a month and a half on this challenging target from my Bortle 7/8 backyard (~23 hours of data in total)
LBN 438 Dark Nebula in HaLRGB.  Data were collected over many nights from July to August 2022.

LBN 438 is a dusty nebula within our own galaxy, visually it is located in the Lacerta constellation. It is illuminated by interstellar radiation known as Extended Red Emission (ERE).   ERE is a relatively recent discovery (1975) and is a photo-luminescence process whereby hydrogenated amorphous carbon is illuminated by interstellar photons in the 500 to 1000nm spectral range.  Hydrogen-alpha signal is very weak but it does add some reddish color to the rim of this dark nebula.

Scope: Explore Scientific 8" Carbon Fibre f/4 Newtonian.
Camera: ASI294MM-P (for L and Ha), ASI294MC-P (for RGB)
Exposure: 241x180s L, 76x180s RGB, 85x300 Ha (Total ~23 hours)
Bortle Scale: 7 - 8, Southern Ontario, Canada
